Trends in Equities 2025

This report explores how changing market demographics are altering the relationship between buyside and sellside firms.

Description

Concurrently, the electronification of equities trading was contributing to the growing adoption of low-touch trading systems, including proprietary algorithmic-based trading platforms and third-party custom-built applications, as market participants sought greater trading efficiencies. This gave buyside firms far more autonomy over execution than was previously possible.

Consequently, buyside firms are becoming less reliant on the sellside and, when it comes to trade execution strategy, there is a shift in the power balance from the sellside to the buyside.
