Description

The Market Map assesses the buyside Order and Execution Management System (OEMS) landscape, evaluating 16 platforms. The report maps each vendor’s functionality across the OEMS value chain, from execution management and operations to connectivity, transaction cost analysis, portfolio management and data management and plots the market by functional capability and coverage, distinguishing point solutions and domain specialists from comprehensive, market-leading platforms.

Four trends define the sector.

Consolidation has been rapid: eight of the sixteen platforms assessed have been acquired by larger software vendors and a further two by private equity firms, producing combined platforms such as FactSet’s integration of Portware and LiquidityBook and State Street’s Charles River-based Alpha suite.

Buyside firms remain split on integration: a slim majority of US equity traders still prefer standalone OMS and EMS systems over combined platforms.

Regulators are forcing operational change, with the move to T+1 settlement across the UK, EU and Switzerland in October 2027 pushing firms toward greater automation and straight-through processing. AI adoption, meanwhile, remains at an early stage: only 15% of North American equity traders have embedded AI into their execution workflow, though expectations for its impact on algorithm optimisation and venue selection run high.

European desks are further along, with a third of institutional equity traders already testing or using AI for broker algorithms, though it still ranks behind trade performance and cybersecurity as a technology priority.

Each of the 16 vendors receives a full profile, covering ownership, leadership, headcount, office footprint, and the functional, asset-class, client and regional coverage of its flagship product.

The report draws on GreySpark’s Searchlight database, a proprietary mapping of capital markets software vendors that helps clients benchmark competitors and identify acquisition targets across a shifting vendor landscape.
